The Leaning Tower of Pisa

The Leaning Tower of Pisa is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Italy. It is located in Pisa, a city near Florence. It is leaning because of the building’s uneven foundation. Once it started to lean, people tried to make it stand up, but eventually they only were able to get it back up a little bit, not all the way.

Tourist Information

The Leaning Tower of Pisa is the most popular tourist attraction in Pisa and is sometimes the sole reason why people visit Pisa. It is on the far north end of the city center, and is a ten to twenty minute walk to other popular tourist attractions.

Getting There

Walking: Most accommodations in Pisa are in the city center, meaning they are in walking distance to the Leaning Tower. Plan to walk 30 mins or so to get from one end of the city center to the other.

Train: Many people choose to take the train from Florence to Pisa. The trains take around 50 minutes to 1 hour and 30 mins and cost at least $10 USD per person (€8.22).

Car: To rent a car in Italy, you need an International Driver’s Permit. Driving in Italy is similar to driving in most large cities, and it is usually not too difficult.

Tour Bus: There are tour buses all over Pisa, and they take you to the Leaning Tower and also can teach you about the history of it. I would use GetYourGuide for pre-booked bus tours.
